ADO.NET also supports disconnected architecture using which you can access data from a database4/21/2024 ADO.NET is a collection of managed libraries used by .NET applications for data source communication using a driver or provider:
The ADO.NET is the latest technology of Microsoft’s Universal Data Access strategyEnterprise applications handle a large amount of data. This data is primarily stored in relational databases, such as ado.net executenonquery return value Oracle, SQL Server, and Access and so on. These databases use Structured Query Language (SQL) for retrieval of data. To access enterprise data from a .NET application, an interface was needed. This interface acts as a bridge between an RDBMS system and a .NET application. ADO.NET is such an interface that is created to connect .NET applications to RDBMS systems. The .NET Framework comprises its own data access technology, which is ADO.NET. The ADO.NET is the latest technology of Microsoft’s Universal Data Access strategy. It is a part of the .NET framework that manages the interaction between non-relational and relational systems with the help of a set of software components. ADO.NET also supports disconnected architecture using which programmers can access data and data services from a database without being dependent on the data source. There are the following two types of connection architectures: Connected architecture: the application remains connected with the database throughout the processing. Disconnected architecture: the application automatically connects/disconnects during the processing. The application uses temporary data on the application side called a DataSet. Scope of ADO.NET ADO.NET as a product of Microsoft has an excellent standing in the market along with massive community support. You can learn ADO.NET along with hands-on experience on the .NET framework, which will give you a competitive advantage. ADO.NET has various advantages which can be categorized into the following categories: Interoperability: It provides the ability to communicate across heterogeneous environments, once the connection has been established between them. Scalability: It provides the ability to serve an increasing number of clients without reducing the performance of the asp.net file upload sample code system. So we can say that ADO.NET is highly scalable because it is flexible enough to be easily expanded when there is a requirement for the same. Productivity: It provides the ability to rapidly develop robust applications for data access using rich and extensible component object models provided by the ADO.NET. Performance: An improvement over earlier ADO.NET versions because of the disconnected data model. It can establish connections quickly to fetch data without any delay. What is a DataAdapter in ADO.NET? A DataAdapter is used to access data from a data source by functioning as a bridge between DataSet and a data source. DataAdapter class includes an SQL command set and a database connection. It is helpful to fill the DataSet and resolve changes to the data source. The DataAdapter will make use of the Connection object that belongs to the .NET Framework data provider for connecting with a data source. Along with that, it will also use Command objects to retrieve data from the data source as well as to resolve changes to the data source. DataAdapter properties that permit the user to control the database are the Select command, Update command, Insert command, and Delete command. What is connection pooling? Connection pooling consists of database connection so that the connection can be used or reused whenever there is request to the database. This pooling technique enhances the performance of executing the database commands. This pooling definitely reduces our time and effort. What are all components of ADO.Net data provider? Following are the components of ADO.Net Data provider: Connection object — Represents connection to the Database Command object — Used to execute stored procedure and command on Database ExecuteNonQuery — Executes command but doesn’t return any value ExecuteScalar — Executes and returns single value ExecuteReader — Executes and returns result set DataReader — Forward and read only recordset DataAdapter — This acts as a bridge between database and a dataset. The DataAdapter Object The DataAdapter object acts as a mediator between the DataSet object and the database. This helps the Dataset to contain data from multiple databases or other data source. The DataReader Object The DataReader object is an alternative to the DataSet and DataAdapter combination. This object provides a connection oriented access to the data records in the database. These objects are suitable for read-only access, such as populating a list and then breaking the connection. DbCommand and DbConnection Objects The DbConnection object represents a connection to the data source. The connection could be shared among different command objects. The DbCommand object represents the command or a stored procedure sent to the database from retrieving or manipulating data. What are the differences between OLEDB and SQLClient Providers? OLEDB provider is used to access any database and provides flexibility of changing the database at any time. SQLClient provider is used to access only SQL Server database but it provides excellent performance than OLEDB provider while connecting with SQL Server database.
